01. BARRE: GRANITE CITY DATE:   07/2013 - Continuing
MEDIUM: Medium Format Film
Barre, VT is very much like many other small towns and cities accross the U.S.  It grew and flourished on the back of a single industry.  For Barre, that industry was granite extraction and carving.  Over time, headstones have fallen out of fashion and the granite business is wanning.  The city that was once considered the most diverse in the state is now trying to reconcile with decline.  At the heart of its culture is family, inherited by the disparate and varied migrants and artisans that settled in this area.
